Website security from breaches

Website security is absolutely essential and a top priority for modern businesses and organizations. A secure website protects sensitive information, such as financial data, personal information, and business secrets from unauthorized access, theft, or damage. Ensuring website security is vital for safeguarding the privacy of both website owners and users and helps build trust within the online community.

10 “Safe” Tips

Here are Tessera’s tips to keep your website or e-shop secure from potential breaches:

  • Use a strong password to access the management environment. Check our suggestions here.
  • Implement Two Factor Authentication (2FA) – Enable two-factor authentication: Two-factor authentication provides an additional layer of security for your accounts. Logging into your website management requires not only the correct password but also a confirmation via email or mobile phone.
  • Limit login attempts to the website management. If there are repeated incorrect password entries, e.g., after three consecutive failed attempts, the account will be locked for a specific period.
  • Social Media Login – Enable management login with Google or Facebook accounts. This way, the administrator does not need to remember the login details. They only need to remember the login details for their Google or Facebook accounts.
  • Change the default management URL of your website or e-shop.
  • Keep the website, platform, and all plugins updated to ensure that any security vulnerabilities are patched. This ensures the optimal functioning of the site and avoids frequent attacks from hackers who identify vulnerabilities in the entire system.
  • Regularly create backup copies of your website files, e.g., daily or weekly, so you can quickly restore all data in case of an attack.
  • Use a security plugin, such as Wordfence, to protect your website from potential threats.
  • Install plugins only from trusted sources and delete any unused or inactive plugins.
  • Choose a reliable hosting provider with secure servers and fast support – response to your requests.

and don’t forget:

  • If an employee or partner leaves a company, it is recommended to either change the password or remove their account immediately.

Note: These tips can help protect your website, but no security measure is foolproof. Staying vigilant and taking proactive steps can significantly reduce the risk of a potential attack.
