Kick-off meeting of the Tessera team for the project: “Smart Software for Optimizing On-Call Duties and Work Shifts through Advanced Algorithms and Big Data Analysis” (SmartShift).
The kick-off meeting of the Tessera project team was held for the research project entitled “Smart Software for Optimizing On-Call Duties and Work Shifts through Advanced Algorithms and Big Data Analysis” (SmartShift), with OPSKE code EKPAR01-0061633.
The meeting took place on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the premises of Tessera, where the overall framework of the project was presented and the individual work packages, deliverables, and project timeline were analyzed. The project team confirmed its commitment to the proper and timely execution of its responsibilities, with the aim of completing and delivering the project in the best possible manner.
The research project is part of the “Research – Innovate” Action (Intervention I: Research and Development by Enterprises) and focuses on the development of an innovative application for scheduling on-call duties and work shifts, designed to address the needs of organizations and enterprises operating with shift-based systems (rotating schedules and/or 27/4 operations).
The new application will leverage advanced optimization algorithms, big data technologies, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning tools, ensuring:
The final product will consist of:
The project commenced on December 1, 2025, and is scheduled to be completed on November 30, 2027, with a total duration of 24 months. The implementation will be carried out exclusively by Tessera, under the scientific supervision of Mr. Vasilis Efopoulos.
With SmartShift, Tessera aims to develop an “intelligent” on-call duty and shift scheduling software that will address essential needs of organizations and enterprises and contribute to the modernization and improvement of their day-to-day operations.

The project “Smart Software for Optimizing On-Call Duties and Work Shifts through Advanced Algorithms and Big Data Analysis” is implemented within the framework of the “Research – Innovate” Action and is co-financed by Greece and the European Union (European Regional Development Fund – ERDF) through the NSRF 2021–2027. The Action falls under Priority 1 “Enhancing Research and Innovation” of the “Competitiveness” Programme and, more specifically, under the Specific Objective “Developing and strengthening research and innovation capacities and the uptake of advanced technologies (ERDF)”. The Action is implemented by the Special Managing and Implementing Authority for Research and Innovation Actions (EYDE EK).
