  • linking research and innovation with entrepreneurship
  • strengthening the competitiveness, productivity and extroversion of businesses towards international markets, with the aim of transitioning to quality innovative entrepreneurship and increasing domestic added value.

The funded research project is entitled: “Development of a platform for self-management of patients with hypertension and chronic cardiovascular diseases” with acronym: formyheart and project code T2EDK-01232

Project Start: 15/4/2021 and Project End: 14/10/2023 (duration: 30 months).

The object of the research project is the development of a platform (software), which will serve people with hypertension and their caregivers, in order to achieve a better management of the disease.

High blood pressure is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), and its global prevalence is expected to increase significantly in the coming years. Patients with high blood pressure face daily intense difficulties in their attempt to manage the disease, due to the complexity of the disease and the multitude of parameters that affect it.

‘ForMyHeart’ is an innovative mobile and web application addressed to people with hypertension and their healthcare providers. It aims to become a handy self-management tool with automated data input from smart devices and a real-time recorder of Photoplethysmography (PPG graph). At the same time, it will detect atrial fibrillation episodes and notify predetermined people about the patient’s position. Finally, it will contribute to increasing the added value of medical services by cultivating a two-way communication between physicians and patients.

The application will help enhance the daily life and psychology of patients with CVD, and their quality of life. An improved lifestyle will be promoted through the application, which is expected to contribute to a significant reduce of crisis situations and of disease-related costs (direct and indirect). At the same time, awareness of patients’ social environment regarding the disease is expected, and a healthier lifestyle with benefits for both the individual and the society as a whole is anticipated; thus, the ultimate goal of contributing to the improvement of the social well-being and the social consciousness of citizens regarding the disease will be reached.

The implementation of the project will be carried out by two SMEs and the commercialization of the final product will result from its penetration to healthcare professionals, clinics and medical centers, patients with CVD, and other bodies, associations and organizations that is expected to support the dissemination of the application.
